Soprano

RosalindeSemmA native of Oklahoma, USA, soprano Anna Baxter began her music education as a child studying piano, clarinet and oboe as well as 10 years of ballet, tap and jazz dance instruction.  Throughout her childhood she was frequently on stage, either as actress, piano soloist, dancer or vocal soloist in musical theater and sacred music.  She has studied at the University of Tulsa, Southern Methodist University and Baylor University, where she earned her Master’s Degree of Music in vocal performance. Further studies continued privately with internationally acclaimed artists KS Olivera Miljakovic and KS Wicus Slabbert in Vienna, where she has found her new home. Baxter was a prize winner at the 2007 International Singing Competition of Passau, as well as winning numerous other competitions during her studies in America.  Her European debut in 2006 as Violetta in La Traviata was highly acclaimed by audience and critics alike. She has also given concerts and recitals in the USA, Europe and Asia. She has sung with orchestras such as the Zagreb Philharmonic, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Hansestadt Lübeck, the Sherman Symphony, and the Hong Kong Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra.  Great musicians with whom she has shared the stage include Claudio Abbado, Rudolf Buchbinder, Peter Schmidl and Jimmy Chiang.  Starting with the 2008/09 season Baxter appeared regularly as a guest soloist at Theater Lübeck and Theater Freiburg in Germany as well as Oper Halle and Stadttheater Bern in Switzerland.  Her repertoire includes such roles as Arabella, Rosalinde, Vitellia, Freia, Liu, Marie in The Bartered Bride and the Countess in Marriage of Figaro.  She made her debut as Sylva Varescu in Kálmán’s Die Csárdásfürstin on tour through Germany in winter 2017/2018. She will give a song recital in Palace Halbturn as a part of its summer music festival. In September she will collaborate with members of the Vienna Philharmonic in an abridged version of the opera Cinderella by British child prodigy Alma Deutscher.  Winter 2018/19 saw her on tour again reprising the role of Saffi in Johann Strauss’ Der Zigeunerbaron as well as the title role in Gräfin Mariza in 2020.  In winter 2023/2024 she sings in a touring gala concert with orchestra celebrating 75 years of  the Johann Strauß Operette Wien touring ensemble.  With this ensemble a further tour of Die Lustige Witwe is planned for winter 2024/25.

Anna Baxter wurde in Oklahoma/USA geboren. Bereits in frühen Jahren verspürte sie eine große Anziehung zur Musik und zum Theater. Erste instrumentale Erfahrungen sammelte sie im Klavier-, Klarinette- und Oboe-Spiel, daneben machte sie eine Tanz-Ausbildung (Ballett-, Stepp- und Jazzbereich), hatte später zahlreiche Auftritte als Schauspielerin und nahm an Kunst/Malerei Workshops teil. Ihr Studium im Bereich Konzertfach und Opern Gesang absolvierte sie in den USA mit dem „Master of Music Degree“. Des Weiteren erhielt sie Unterricht bei Kammersängerin Olivera Miljakovic und Kammersänger Wicus Slabbert in Wien.

Anna Baxter ist Gewinnerin zahlreicher Gesangswettbewerbe in den USA. Zuletzt war sie Preisträgerin des Internationalen Gesangswettbewerbes Passau. Zahlreiche Konzertauftritte führten sie nach Österreich, Deutschland, Italien, Kroatien, Finnland, Japan und Hong Kong, mit Künstlern wie z.B. Claudio Abbado, Rudolf Buchbinder, Peter Schmidl und Jimmy Chiang. Sie war als Solistin am Theater Lübeck, Theater Freiburg, Oper Halle und am Stadttheater Bern. Zu ihrer Partien gehören u.a. Arabella, Violetta, Rosalinde, Saffi, Freia, Liu, Mařenka, Figaro Gräfin und das gängige Konzertrepertoire ihres Fachs.  Zuletzt gab sie ihre Rollendebut als Sylva Varescu in Kálmán’s Die Csárdásfürstin mit der Johann Strauss Operette Wien auf Tournee im Winter 2017/2018. Im September 2018 wirkt sie mit Mitglieder der Wiener Philharmoniker in einer gekürzte Fassung von Alma Deutscher’s Oper Cinderella.  Winter 2018/19 wiederholt sie die Rolle der Saffi in Johann Strauss’ Der Zigeunerbaron und im Winter 2020 die Titelrolle in Kálmán’s Gräfin Mariza.  Im Winter 2023/24 singt sie beim 75. Jubiläumsgala der Johann Strauß Operette auf Tournee mit.  Weiters ist eine Neuproduktion von Die Lustige Witwe für Winter 2024/25 geplant, wo sie die Titelrolle singen wird.
